Frontier economy sweat (the mile high musings of an Indie musician)
I’m drenched in sweat on a Frontier economy flight heading home from a snowboarding trip in Denver, Colorado. Just minutes ago while waiting to board, I watched the gate agent stopping people to make them check their larger bags for a $99 fee. I could tell my bag wasn’t going to make the cut considering I stuffed everything I packed into a single backpack, so I exited the line and began putting on the bulkier items to help shrink my bag. Lo and behold, it worked and I boarded the flight wearing two snow jackets, puffy snow pants and a helmet… They say beggars can’t be choosers, but I chose to get out to Denver and all I begged for was some real good snow.
Now as I now look out over the snow-capped Rockies from 30,000 feet, I’m overcome with gratitude for this beautiful world and all the opportunities I have to enjoy it. My record release show is on Earth Day, April 22nd at Valley Bar and I chose Earth Day because so much of my music is inspired by mother nature. I released my first song “Everything (That I Need)” on Arbor Day of 2020 and vowed to plant a tree for a fan every time the song received another 1K streams. This was my way of giving back to the source of inspiration and forging the connection between my music, listeners and environment. Over the years my team has worked with a handful of environmentally conscious organizations to raise money and awareness for the responsible use, protection and maintenance of our natural environments, some of which include the Arizona Trail Association, The Australian Community and AZ Game & Fish Department. It’s now my privilege to host this event in honor of Earth Day and you can get your tickets to the show RIGHT HERE.
With how far society has progressed and how much we are increasingly locked into the grid, it can be easy to look at nature as separate from our lives, especially for those of us who live in the city. If you feel the same way, I invite you to join myself and the band on a hike the morning of April 22nd to get out, get some fresh air and forge a tighter connection between each other and our environment. I’m thinking South Mountain or Piestewa Peak, but I’m totally open to suggestions for trails that aren’t too far out of the city!
